Chemical change: Physical change in the material

I. Objective
Observe changes where no new material is formed.

II. Subject Matter
Observe changes where no new material is formed.
Science Ideas: In most physical change, the shape and size of the materials changed. The addition and removal of heat causes physical change in the material. Physical change does not change atoms or molecules.
Science Processes: Observing, describing
Materials:

III. Suggested Activities
A. Motivation
Ask the pupils to name the changes they have observed in themselves. Ask them if these changes have changed them into new individuals.

B. Presentation
1. Do the Find out Activity:
-Observing physical change
-Identifying conditions when physical change occurs
-Identifying the products of physical change
2. Describe what they have observed.
3. Identify conditions when physical change occurs.
4. Identify the products of physical change.
5. Generalization
Ask these questions:
-what is physical change?
-in what conditions does physical change occurs?
-what kind of products result from physical change?
C. Application
Identify ten examples of physical changes taking place in their community.
D. Valuing
E. Evaluation
Multiple choice. Write the letter of the best answer.
1. Physical change happens when materials undergo a change in __________.
a. size b. shape c. phase d. all of them
2. Which of the ff. activities does not show physical change?
a. shaping a piece of clay c. bending a piece of wire
b. cutting strips of paper d. baking bread
3. Which conditions can bring about physical change?
a. heat b. pressure c. cold temperature d. all of them
4. Which of the ff. is not a result of physical change?
a. small pieces of paper after cutting a whole sheet of paper.
b. diff. sizes of rocks after pounding
c. ashes after burning
